Stainless steel is a solid choice for trash cans because the material is durable, corrosion-resistant and relatively inexpensive. If your stainless steel trash can becomes dirty and foul-smelling, invest a little energy into cleaning it properly. The best way to clean a stainless steel trash can is with an eco-friendly cleaning method. The products used will not damage the stainless steel surface, are nontoxic and safe for the environment.
Instructions
1.Rinse out the trash can with a garden hose to remove any obvious debris.
2.Pour equal parts hot water and white vinegar into the trash can -- at least two gallons of each.
3.Add about 10 squirts of liquid dish soap to the trash can.
4.Allow the soapy mix about 15 to 30 minutes to soak in the bottom of the can.
5.Dip a rag into the soapy water and vinegar mixture and use it to scrub the walls of the can, inside and out.
6.Pour the water out of the can and scrub the bottom of the inside with one or more rags.
7.Scrub any stubborn debris or stains with a nylon scrubbing pad.
8.Rinse well with the garden hose and dry thoroughly.
9.Sprinkle baking soda in the bottom of the can once it has dried completely in order to absorb any lingering odors.
